Depression Research

After finalising the genre of my Opening sequence. I started my research about the types of Depression people and most possibly what could be the reasons as to why people go through this disorder.
  • Major Depression : is a mental disorder characterised by at least two weeks of low mood that is present across most situations. It is often accompanied by low self-esteem, loss of interest in normally enjoyable activities, low energy, and pain without a clear cause.
  • Persistent Depressive Disorder (it is also known as dysthymia) : is a chronic (ongoing) type of depression in which a person's moods are regularly low.
  • Bipolar Depression : causes serious shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behaviour—from the highs of mania on one extreme, to the lows of depression on the other.
  • S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder): is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons
  • Psychotic Depression: is a serious condition that requires immediate treatment and close monitoring by a medical or mental health professional
  • Smiling Depression: describes someone living with depression on the inside while appearing happy or content on the outside
  • Situational Depression: is a short-term form of depression that can occur in the aftermath of various traumatic changes in your normal life, including divorce, retirement, loss of a job and the death of a relative or close friend.
Symptoms of Depression:
  • Concentration Problems
  • Appetite and Weight gain or loss
  • Unexplained Headaches
  • Loss of Energy
  • Self-Loathing
  • Loss of interest in daily activities
  • Feeling of helplessness and hopelessness.
The suicide risk in depression is high. Many people tend to do the following:
  • Expressing strong feelings of hopelessness or being trapped
  • An unusual preoccupation with death or dying
  • Acting recklessly, as if they have a death wish (e.g. speeding through red lights)
  • Calling or visiting people to say goodbye
  • Getting affairs in order (giving away prized possessions, tying up loose ends)
  • Saying things like “Everyone would be better off without me” or “I want out”
  • Talking about killing or harming one’s self
  • A sudden switch from being extremely depressed to acting calm and happy.
(The last point has been highlighted because that is the one i will be working on. If not completely, some aspects of it will be available.)
